Wooden Ice Cream Chair

An alternative to the traditional style

For those who like the decorative nature of ice cream chairs, but find they won't quite fit in with their decor, here's the alternative. Why not get ice cream chairs with wooden seats? These are sometimes called bentwood chairs. Get the matching wooden table, and you have a small dining room suite that is still distinctive.

Traditionalists will argue that an ice cream chair really should have a plastic seat -- after all, these were the most practical for the sometimes sticky environment -- but wood has been used for chairs for centuries, and you can find an early ice cream chair with a wooden frame made from bent round wooden sections.

Obviously, you can take your pick. The ice cream chair on the left, above, has a frame and back which could easily be made from wood, although usually nowadays it could be made from steel tube. But the ice cream chair set, to the right, has wooden seats and tabletop, and wouldn't look out of place in many dining rooms. Note that the legs and backs are clearly not wood, in this case.

So it's all a matter of personal choice. Have a look at all the different types of ice cream chairs that you can get, and see which suits your home. Just know that they add a touch of style with a charming old-fashioned appearance, and can fit almost anywhere.
